Interior of L.M. Wheat's Drug Store, 1911.
Located on the southeast corner of Church and Main, on the site of the
present
Post Office. Lewis Wheat (1862-1938) was brother-in-law of Dr.
Charles Atwood (proponent of Fillmore Glen) who owned the property and the
house to the south. Wheat operated at this location from 1885 to 1916
after which he purchased the
Smith Hall
block at the northwest corner of Main and Central from Charles A. Parker and
moved his store to the south half of the building.
This picture was taken on May 26, 1911 at 10:13 AM - based on
the clock and calendar located on the back wall of the store. The
clock (close-up right) has advertising for Rexall drugs. Wheat had the
original Rexall franchise in Moravia; Ralph Hawley took over the franchise
some time later. L.M. Wheat is likely the man on the left. Frank
Innes (1855-1926) is likely the man on the right. He was a watchmaker
and jeweler and Wheat's business partner. |
